Looking for a unique Christmas holiday event for the whole family? Look no further than the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. It is by far the most one of the most exciting holiday events in Orange County.
Like a street parade on the water, you’ll see yachts, boats, and even tiny dinghies decorated in holiday splendor. Newport Beach’s harbor parade is the largest in Southern California with over 200 participants every year from December 19 – December 23.
The parade has 110 years of history and is viewed by over a million people each year. Newport Beach begins setting up holiday decorations after Thanksgiving and by the first of December the harbor is illuminated with thousands of lights.
Entrants in the boat parade often spend $50,000 or more on their decorations in competing for top honors in the parade. As well as the ships, the Parade also features local waterfront homes and estates in full décor.
How to view the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade
The parade route starts and ends at the Tip of Lido Isle. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. each night from December 19 – 23.
Parade participants will start from the east end of Lido Island following the celebrated route, with the first public viewing destination at the new Marina Park. This community park offers 177 parking spaces, a nautical-themed playground, picnic areas, and a sailing center. It is the largest public viewing area along the parade route, and an ideal location to enjoy the festivities.
Other options for viewing the Newport Beach Boat Parade include: Balboa boardwalk on the Balboa Peninsula, Peninsula Point Beach, Pirates Cove on the southernmost part of Newport Bay (Corona Del Mar), along Bayside Drive, all around Balboa Island, Little Island, Collins Island, Lido Park, Lido Isle, and most of the streets on Balboa Peninsula.
And of course, if you want to enjoy dinner while watching the parade, you can visit one of the many restaurants that line the harbor. Restaurants such as the Newport Landing Restaurant, Harborside Restaurant, Joe’s Crab Shack, Rusty Pelican, Charthouse, and Villa Nova are just some of the restaurants that provide a waterfront view of the boat parade.
