Enjoy the Great Outdoors at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

If you are visiting Orange County or looking for a fun outdoors activity, then Laguna Coast Wilderness Park is a destination worth your time. The park lies within some of the last remaining coastal canyons in Southern California and gives visitors a feel for what the original coastline areas looked like.

Featuring over forty miles of trails, you can take your time wandering through woodlands up onto high ridges with breathtaking scenic vistas. One of these trails is named Big Bend, a nearly 5-mile long trail with truly spectacular views.

The Wilderness Park is part of the Natural Community Conservation Planning program, which is designed to protect rare and endangered species. Many types of wildlife inhabit the area, including Mule Deer, Long-tailed Weasel, Bobcats, Red-tailed Hawk, and many more.

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park’s 7,000 acres are part of the South Coast Wilderness area. The entire area totals almost 20,000 acres, including Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Crystal Cove State Park, The City of Irvine Open Space, and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.

If you are interested in the area, you can visit Nix Nature Center to learn more about Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and for trail information and orientation. The Center offers guidance on how to best explore the parkland through exhibits and wildlife viewing area portals. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park also offers outdoor activities for all ages and levels of fitness. Hiking, mountain biking, running trails, or riding horseback through miles are all possible activities.

If you’d like a guide, regular guided tours (either on foot or bicycle) are available. Guided by volunteer naturalists and park staff, these tours cover a wide range of interests, from fitness to botany. Get familiar with a Laguna Coast Wilderness Park map so you know all of the ins and outs of this amazing park and enjoy it to the fullest!
