It might not look like it today, but Orange County used to be an agricultural mecca in the heart of Southern California. This tradition for farming comes to life every October at the OC’s multiple pumpkin patches spread throughout the county. Don’t feel like picking pumpkins? 1. Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch

The annual Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch is open 7 days a week and hosts various different events throughout October. There’s fun for the entire family with attractions like riding the famous Irvine Park Train, tractor races, a bounce house, haunted house, food, and plenty more. Furthermore, there’s even a hay wagon, ring toss, face painting, a giant hay maze, picture stands, pony rides, and cookie decorating. Best of all, it’s completely free to enter!

2. Tanaka Farms Pumpkin Patch

No list of Orange County pumpkin patches is complete without including Tanaka Farms in Irvine, CA. This pumpkin patch is family-owned with rich history to back it up. Visitors can partake in the wagon ride, vegetable patch, corn maze, petting, zoo, and obviously the pumpkins! Don’t miss out on the yummy Tanaka Grill that’s open daily from 9 am – 5 pm and free parking Monday-Friday. Make sure to visit before October is over!

3. Peltzer Pumpkin Farm 

Located in Temecula, CA, Peltzer farm is the Inland Empire’s best-known pumpkin patch. Visitors can expect train rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, corn maze, pig races, and plenty more. Now open for its 13th season, the patch different activity schedules every week and tickets to all only cost $1. Private events include birthday parties, family photos, school tours, and weddings. Check back during the holidays for a full Christmas tree farm.

4. Pumpkin City 

Founded in 1978, Pumpkin City’s pumpkin farm in the Laguna Hills Mall is one of Orange County’s premier pumpkin picking locations. Much like the other patches on this list, kids can enjoy bounce houses, carnival games, petting zoos, swings, boat rides, pony rides, slides, and more. Additionally, visitors of all ages will love the barnyard animals, general store, game booths, and a place to pan for gold.

5. Enchanted Country Pumpkins

The Enchanted Country Pumpkin Patch in Brea, CA is now open for business! Opening its barn doors in 1972, the founders, Bill and Barbara Duncan were the originators of the “pick your own” pumpkin patch in local neighborhoods close to you. Their motto is “bringing farm fun to the suburbs” and every year they do just that. If pumpkins aren’t enough, visit for John Deere tractor rides, carnival games, a petting zoo, inflatable bounce houses, and cute baby chicks. Make sure to visit this month!

6. The Pumpkin Patch

The Pumpkin Patch in Placentia is Southern California’s oldest pumpkin patch (hence the name). The patch offers a petting zoo and stations to pan for gold along with a shop full of decorative items and pumpkin supplies. Visit this pumpkin patch for a taste of history in Orange County.

7. The Pumpkin Factory 

Pumpkin City boasts 3 separate pumpkin patch locations in Corona, the Westminster Mall, and Live Oak Canyon. Along with thousands of pumpkins, the patch offers rides, inflatables, and games. 8. Whittier Pumpkin Patch 

A bit further out from our Hotel in Santa Ana is the Whittier Pumpkin Patch. Kids won’t mind the extra drive time after seeing the Jumping Zone with a variety of different inflatables and a $13 price of admission. Following the Jumping Zone, head over to Tractor Town to see the newest addition to this family-friendly pumpkin patch. Furthermore, there are pony rides that cost $7 per child and provide the perfect Halloween photo opp. Additionally, the petting zoo allows you to feed cute baby goats and plenty of other animals. 9. Pumpkin Festival at Cal Poly Pomona

The 27th Annual Pumpkin Festival arrives on campus at Cal Poly Pomona with $5 pumpkins, entertainment, and plenty of activities. Visitors can enjoy hayrides, corn mazes, cow-milking, soap-making, beekeeping, ragdoll making, rubber duck races, and blacksmithing demonstrations. Furthermore, festival-goers can play games at the student-run booths and challenge each other in pumpkin pie-eating or seed-spitting contests. Finally, the farmer’s market will feature student-grown fruits and vegetables along with live music.
